The new six storey building houses the new seat of the Department of Animal Biology and is attached to the existing Department of Bio-Medical Science building on via Campi, Modena. The building was finished in 1998 and consists of 4800sq.m of gross floor area.
The new structure is functionally divided in two zones:
-the wider northern part is dedicated to classrooms and laboratories;
-the narrower southern part is destined for studies and administrative offices.
The appearance of the building is dominated by the external metallic walkway on each floor which carries services (including technical gasses for the laboratories) to the various parts of the building, facilitates maintenance of the exterior walls and also serves as solar shading to the southern facade.
